🎥 Final Farewell: A Tragic Glimpse into the Last Moments Before the Ahmedabad Flight

In a video now widely circulated on social media, a British man is seen smiling and waving goodbye before boarding the ill-fated Air India Flight AI171, which suffered a catastrophic incident shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025.

Jamie Ray Meek, a UK citizen, recorded the short clip at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, saying, “See you soon…” as he and his partner, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, prepared to return home to London after a ten-day vacation in India.

What was meant to be a joyful farewell video has now become a deeply emotional symbol of one of the most tragic air travel events in recent years.

✈️ The Couple’s Last Trip Together

Jamie and Fiongal, founders of The Wellness Foundry, had documented their time in India through a series of peaceful, joyful posts. Their final video, captioned “Goodbye India,” was uploaded just hours before boarding their flight.

According to reports, both boarded Air India Flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner bound for London Gatwick with 242 people on board. The aircraft lost communication with air traffic control within one minute of takeoff and crashed into a building in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad.

All but one passenger on board were confirmed deceased, including the couple.

🕯️ Global Reaction & Tributes

The haunting farewell has sparked an outpouring of grief across social media platforms, with thousands paying tribute to Jamie and Fiongal’s legacy.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a statement expressing condolences and confirmed that the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is working closely with Indian authorities.

Meanwhile, King Charles III also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of British lives and praised the efforts of first responders on the ground.

“Jamie and Fiongal embodied the light and spirit of adventure. Their final video is now a memory etched in the hearts of many,” one supporter wrote on Instagram.

👥 Survivor, Support, and Investigation

One passenger — Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, a UK national of Indian origin — was rescued from the wreckage and remains under intensive care. Officials confirmed he was seated in Row 11A, near an emergency exit, which may have contributed to his survival.

India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is currently leading the investigation, with support from the UK’s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), the U.S. NTSB, and Boeing.

Black box recorders have been recovered, and preliminary theories suggest configuration issues involving lift or gear may have played a role. However, no final cause has yet been released.
