In a startling development, former actress-singer Lindsay Custodio has filed a formal complaint under the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act (Republic Act No. 9262) against her estranged husband, Frederick Cale. The complaint, lodged on June 2, 2025, at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office, alleges a series of abuses that Custodio claims to have endured during their marriage.x

Allegations of Abuse and Financial Exploitation

Custodio’s complaint details various forms of abuse, including sexual, emotional, verbal, psychological, and economic maltreatment. She recounts that since their engagement in 2020, Cale exhibited controlling behavior, insisting on an immediate wedding and requesting that invitations specify a preference for cash gifts. Post-wedding, Custodio alleges that Cale forcibly took their monetary gifts and coerced her into withdrawing funds from her personal bank account to cover his credit card expenses.

Further, Custodio claims that Cale verbally demeaned her and her two children from a previous marriage, with some incidents witnessed by others. She also alleges that two days after their wedding, Cale left for Canada without plans to cohabitate or fulfill marital responsibilities. Upon his brief return to the Philippines in 2023, Custodio asserts that Cale continued his abusive behavior, including instances of forced sexual acts. Additionally, she accuses him of engaging in relationships with other women in Canada during their marriage.

Legal Proceedings and Previous Complaints

This is not the first time Custodio has sought legal recourse against Cale. She filed a similar complaint in 2024, which was dismissed. In response, Cale filed a cyberlibel complaint against Custodio the same year, which was also dismissed. As of now, Cale has not publicly commented on the latest allegations.

Custodio’s Statement and Pursuit of Justice

In a statement to the media, Custodio expressed her desire for justice and healing, stating, “I have the truth in this. This is the first step to my healing.” Her legal counsel, Atty. Heyz Meking, emphasized the severity of the trauma Custodio has endured, noting that she has suffered from depression and required psychiatric medication due to her experiences.

The case is currently under review by the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. The public awaits further developments as Custodio seeks justice and closure from the alleged abuses she endured.
