A 7-year-old boy lost his life after being hit by a pickup truck in a hit-and-run incident.

The tragedy took place in Lingayon, Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Based on the report of TV5’s ‘Frontline Pilipinas,’ the child was walking along the roadside when the pickup truck suddenly struck him.

Right after the incident, the driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and did not stop to help.

The 7-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital for immediate medical attention, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The truck driver is still at large.

In the Philippines, if a driver hits someone with their vehicle, kills the victim, and then escapes from the scene, the driver can be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in hom!cide and failure to render assistance under the Revised Penal Code.

The act of escaping or not stopping to help the victim makes the situation worse for the driver because it shows disregard for human life.

If proven, the penalty can include imprisonment, fines, and cancellation of the driver’s license.

In some cases, if there is clear intent or extreme negligence, the driver may face more serious charges depending on the investigation.

The authorities usually treat hit-and-run cases seriously, especially if it leads to death.
