Sen. Bato says he was ‘guided by the Holy Spirit’ in motion to return VP Sara’s impeachment articles

Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa defended his controversial motion to return the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte to the House of Representatives, saying he was “guided by the Holy Spirit.”

“I am not a lawyer, nag-iisip lang. I am just guided by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is guiding me all the time,” Dela Rosa said during Tuesday’s Senate impeachment court session, as reported by the Daily Guardian.

Dela Rosa’s motion, supported by 17 other senators, questioned whether the Senate could properly act on the impeachment case, raising concerns about jurisdiction.

“Kung magpadala tayo ng subpoena kay Vice President Sara Duterte, ano’ng attachment ang ilagay natin sa subpoena?” he asked.

“Articles of impeachment should be attached to the subpoena… so technically, we don’t have jurisdiction over the articles of impeachment.”

Despite his remarks, Senate President and impeachment court presiding officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero clarified that returning the articles would not mean the case is dismissed.

He assured the public that a summons would still be issued to the Vice President, indicating that the impeachment process remains active.

The motion sparked intense debate, with critics claiming it undermines the constitutional process, while supporters argue it ensures proper procedure.

In other news, a woman was fatally shot by riding-in-tandem suspects while she was having a drink with some friends on a roadside in Sampaloc, Manila.
