🌟 From Star to Security: How Jinky Oda, Former ‘Bale’ of Okay Ka, Fairy Ko, Became a Lady Guard in San Francisco—And Why Her Journey Inspires Now
Once a beloved comedian on Philippine TV, Jinky Oda—famously known as “Bale” from Okay Ka, Fairy Ko—has taken an unexpected, inspiring turn in life: she’s now working as a licensed security personnel in San Francisco, California, after immigrating nearly four years ago.
🎭 From Laughter to Lone City
When Jinky moved to the U.S. in 2021, culture shock hit her hard. She recalled in a chat with Rufa Mae Quinto and LJ Moreno that for her first year, she barely recognized the city—no neighbors to talk to, no familiar faces, just quiet and routine. It was the opposite world she left behind in the Philippines.
💼 Caregiving, Community, and a Chance Break
Starting out as a caregiver, Jinky supported the elderly one-on-one, even using her humor to comfort them. A key turning point came when a local security guard who befriended her helped her enroll in training—and soon, she secured her license without ever needing to carry a gun.
🛡️ A Job That Gave Her Peace
Jinky shared she had prayed for non-stressful work, and as a security guard, that’s exactly what she found. She emphasized the difference from being a police officer: her role is peaceful, alert but not violent.
“I didn’t need a weapon,” she said. “I just needed responsibility.”
❤️ A New Chapter, but a Loving Heart
Now a U.S. resident with her adult son living in Florida, Jinky says she’s settled—and her life overseas is where she belongs. She may return to the Philippines only to visit friends, but her home is here.
Despite departing from showbiz, she maintains a joyful spirit:
“I used my being a comedian to make [the elders] laugh,” she recalls.
🌍 The Power of Reinvention
Jinky’s story reminds us no matter where we go or what we do, our past always adds value. From Okay Ka, Fairy Ko to guarding a community in San Francisco, she exemplifies resilience, adaptability, and grace.
